Tucson Grandparents' Rights Lawyer

In 1987, Linda Ronstadt celebrated her Hispanic heritage with "Canciones de Mi Padre." A native of Tucson, Arizona, Ronstadt's album featured songs once performed by her grandfather. Most grandparents hope to one day see the family traditions and talents passed down through the generations in similar ways. Many also find great pride and joy in participating in a grandchild's life. When a situation threatens this intergenerational relationship, it is natural to seek out a way to protect both the child and your ability to spend time with him or her.

Our Approach

At Centuori & Associates, PLLC, our lawyers focus on family law exclusively, including representing clients trying to establish child visitation rights for grandparents. We will take the time to examine the details of the situation and provide you with an honest evaluation of the options available to you.

Preserving Other Relationships

In loco parentis, which translates into "in the place of a parent," is the legal term for visitation rights granted to anyone who has established a relationship with the child but is neither the parent nor legal guardian. This could potentially apply to a wide variety of situations such as:

  • A child is removed from a dangerous or abusive household and placed in the custody of the state. A grandparent or other relative attempts to intervene and assume custody of the child.
  • An adult child has become estranged from his or her parents and, as a result, refuses to allow contact with the grandchildren.
  • After a divorce, child custody is granted to one of the parents. That parent is estranged from his or her former in-laws and refuses to allow them to have contact with the grandchildren.
  • A couple has been raising a child together for many years when their relationship ends. The child's biological father is not the man who has been raising him or her and the surrogate father never legally adopted the child.
  • A same-sex couple raises either a biological or adopted child for many years. The relationship ends and a custody battle begins. However, only one of the adults is legally listed as the adoptive parent.
